For this edition of Wow! That Tastes Good! I will share my poke journey. Poke (poh-KAY) is a Hawaiian dish. The word poke means “chunk” in Hawaiian, and so poke is a marinated salad of meat, fruits, or vegetables diced or cut into chunks. It commonly features raw tuna or salmon, but chunked avocado and mango are also popular.

Mahalo Poke House opened in January 2022, and has quickly become established with the local community. I only discovered this gem the following year. Its location in the East Beach Shoppes on Shore Drive had been a favorite of mine because of Mona Lisa Restaurant. But after Mona Lisa moved to its current place on Military Highway, I hadn’t paid as much attention. One day, it seemed, the sign for Mahalo Poke House caught my eye. But it remained only a blip on life’s radar until I visited another eatery that served poke among other items on its menu. I thought, “Why would I eat poke here when there’s a restaurant dedicated to it nearby?” So with that, I made up my mind to visit Mahalo Poke House.

I have gone four times, now. On my most recent visit, I learned from Theresa that “Mahalo” not only means “Thank you” but also extends out into the wider realm of gratitude. I am truly grateful to Mahalo Poke House and for all the incredible options their menu offers. They are a fresh alternative to typical fast food. They source ingredients which are Certified Organic, BPA-free, and GMO-free. Options are available for every diet and dietary restriction, Meat, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free, Dairy-free, and Sugar-free. They also have children’s options available.

Delicious!

I have had the Ahi Bowl, the Spicy Ahi Bowl, the Salmon Bowl, and a build-your-own option where I had salmon and tako. I’ve also had a wrap. On my next visit, I definitely want to try the Musubi; I keep forgetting about it, dazzled as I am by the rest of the menu. Visit Mahalo Poke House, and you’ll be saying, “Wow! That tastes good!” too.
